Overview
The OTHM Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training is an ‘in service’ qualification designed for those working or wishing to work as teachers/trainers in England. It requires access to 100 hours of teaching practice and includes a minimum of eight observations of practice, totaling at least eight hours. This qualification covers the planning and delivering of schemes of work, sessions, negotiation of individual goals, different teaching and learning strategies, communication issues, and exploring a range of assessment practices. Optional units allow learners to explore areas directly relevant to their teaching roles.

Entry Requirements

Hold a relevant vocational and/or academic qualification of at least the level above that of their learners and ideally a minimum Level 3 qualification in his/her own area of specialism.

Have access to 100 teaching practice hours with full responsibility for planning, delivering, and assessing.

The program equips learners with the knowledge, understanding, and skills needed to confirm occupational competence in education and training. It helps in the planning and delivering of schemes of work, sessions, negotiation of individual goals, and different teaching and learning strategies. Successful completion of this qualification allows learners to apply for Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills (QTLS) status through the Society for Education and Training (SET).
Upon completion, learners can apply for Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills (QTLS) status through SET, enhancing their teaching credentials. The qualification also enables further education at universities in the UK and abroad, providing advanced standing towards relevant degree top-up courses. This opens up more opportunities for career advancement in the education and training sector.Â
